Fellowship

The word Gurukul is a combination of the Sanskrit words guru (‘teacher’ or ‘master’) and kula (‘family’ or ‘home’). A gurukul (Sanskrit: गुरुकुल) is a type of education system in which the students live near or with the guru, in the same house. The students learn from the guru and help the guru in his everyday life. Even the mundane activities done to help in the routine of the teacher is considered an essential part of the education as it teaches the students how to live life and conduct oneself from day to day. While living in a gurukula, the students would be typically away from their home from a period of months to years at a stretch.

Is there a need of this ancient system of learning and teaching in the modern, digital, automated robotic World of today? Surprisingly yes, it is very much relevant even today. The foundation laying for Aesthetic Surgery, through years of training in General Surgery followed by Plastic Surgery are modern Institution based. However, when we go higher to the super-speciality of Aesthetic Surgery itself, it paradoxically goes back to the ancient system of Gurukul kind of training. This is because, even today, there is no possibility of adequate teaching of this in Institutions. Aesthetic Surgery is best learned from Mentors, in dedicated centres with a high volume of Aesthetic work, and this happens more in private set-ups. While it is impossible for
the Government to bring together these private centres for providing training to students, it is a task taken over by our
Association to help co-ordinate such training in these “Gurukuls” of Aesthetic Surgery.

Any IAAPS Member (Full Life or Overseas), can seek Fellowship from any of the IAAPS Recognised Fellowship Centres, enlisted. These centres which meet some stringent criteria, are carefully chosen by a team of Assessors.

A candidate  can choose a Centre after going through the Details provided about each centre. On making a choice, an Application Form shall be filled in by the candidate seeking an attachment, and personally post or convey this directly to the Centre. On being chosen, s/he shall need to follow some Rules of Fellowship. On proceeding with the Fellowship for the designated period, s/he shall maintain a daily work roster, a copy of which shall be submitted to the IAAPS Office. The Fellow shall also fill in a Feedback Form regarding her/his experiences at the centre, at the conclusion of the Fellowship period, before collecting the Fellowship Certificate.

Fellowship applications have to be made directly to the Centre. Any application to IAAPS directly does not ensure placements. IAAPS does not interfere with the trainings, stipends, accommodations or any other facilities offered by any centre, and that is the sole discretion of the centre itself. IAAPS only provides you a menu on display to help you select your centre of choice, and is involved in the process of accrediting these centres.
